About Speech & Debate Timer
Speech & Debate Timer is an independent timing tool for competitors, coaches, judges, and timekeepers. It provides countdowns for common speech events and debate formats, with prep-time tracking and optional visual alerts.
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any league, association, or tournament.
What you can do for free
Every timer works as a guest, without creating an account. You can pick an event, run speech and prep timers, step through debate rounds, and configure flash alerts. See the guide for details on each control.
Optional accounts
An account is optional and intended for users age 13 or older. Signing in lets you save timer settings to the cloud and load them on another device; the website and mobile app share the same account. Settings stored only on your device stay separate until you choose to save them. You can delete your account from the Account screen or by requesting deletion.
No recording
The timer does not record, upload, or store audio or video of your speeches. It only counts time.
Website and mobile app
This website may display advertising, which helps cover its costs. The separate iPhone and Android app has no ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. Help for the app is on the mobile support page.
Rules and safety
- Event presets are convenient defaults, not official rules. Confirm times with your tournament before relying on them.
- Flashing alerts can affect photosensitive people. They can be switched off entirely in alert settings, stopped by a click or tap, and stop automatically after 30 seconds.
- Browsers and devices may not always keep the screen awake or the timer in front. For official rounds, keep a backup timing method available.
